Sir Peter Westmacott's forty-year career in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office straddled the last decade of the Cold War and the age of globalization.

It included spells in pre-revolutionary Iran and the European Commission in Brussels and three years as Deputy Private Secretary to The Prince of Wales, culminating in prestigious ambassadorial postings in Ankara, Paris and Washington in the post-9/11 era.

 

After retiring in January 2016, he spent a semester teaching and lecturing at Harvard's Kennedy School as a Fellow of the Institute of Politics and of the Belfer Centre for Science and International Affairs. 

Returning to the UK, Sir Peter spent five years as Independent Non-Executive at Ernst & Young until 2022. He is now Chair of the International Advisory Board of Tikehau Capital, Chair of Tikehau Capital UK, and a Non-Executive Director of WE Soda Ltd, Volex Plc, Glasswall Holdings Ltd, and Ciner Glass Ltd.

He is also a Senior Adviser at Chatham House and a Distinguished Ambassadorial Fellow of The Atlantic Council.

An expert on International Relations, US and UK politics, the EU, Brexit and the Middle East, he speaks regularly at international conferences, and on radio and television.
