The History of Keele World Affairs

Keele World Affairs, founded in 1980, is constantly evolving, not least in the last ten years. In 2014, we created the following video to capture its origins and how it developed to that date. It is a testament to successful volunteer efforts over several decades.

Owen & Ethel Powell

Keele World Affairs will always be closely associated with Owen Powell who, ably supported by his wife Ethel, founded it in 1980 as a series of adult education meetings addressed by guest speakers.

He continued to organise and chair almost all of the meetings for a period of 30 years and this page carries links to the many people he touched.

Ethel died in March 2014 aged 98 and Owen died in February 2015 aged 94.
